Velo Cruces advocates for the safety and enjoyment of people who choose to or have to cycle or walk in Las Cruces and the Mesilla Valley. Our functions are multifold. We seek to:

Communicate

Advocate

Promote

Velo Cruces serves as a hub for bicycling communication through this website, our Facebook page, and email list. Velo Cruces hosts a calendar of all things bicycling:

When someone wants to find out about biking in Las Cruces, this is where to start.

Velo Cruces will be the voice for the cycling community, insisting that our city council supports and advocates for cycling, propelling the complete streets initiative, participating in the discussion of the Rio Grande Trail (which is proposed to run from Colorado to El Paso), promoting the installation of bike racks around the city, and any other opportunities that arise to promote the improvement and safety of bicycling in Las Cruces. When an issue develops that calls for group action, Velo Cruces will reach back through affiliated cycling clubs/organizations to mobilize the bicycling community to action.

There are many great groups doing good work with cycling in our community: NMSU, Safe Routes to School, Optimist Club, League Cycling Instructors, amongst others. Towards this end, Velo Cruces is developing a Bicycle Friendly Business initiative.

Cyclists fare best when they act and are treated as drivers of vehicles.
